What is the Citizen Card used for?

This card allows you to withdraw federal social benefits such as unemployment insurance, FGTS (Brazilian severance pay fund), salary bonus, Bolsa Família (family allowance program), and PIS/PASEP (social integration program/public employee savings program).

Many of the benefits offered by the Federal Government are linked to Caixa bank, which is why withdrawals are made at that branch.

How can I get a Citizen Card?

To obtain your citizen card, you will need:

  • You need to have your data and addresses registered with Caixa
  • You need to be registered with PIS/PASEP;
  • You also need to have the NIS, which is the Social Security Number, or the NIT, which is the Worker Registration Number;
  • After organizing all these documents, all you have to do is go to Caixa and request your card
  • If you are entitled to employment or social security benefits and do not yet have a citizen's card, you only need to go to a Caixa branch.

The documents you will need to apply for your citizen card are:

  • Work permit
  • Birth or marriage certificate
  • Proof of address, which can be a water bill, property tax bill, telephone bill, or electricity bill.
  • CPF
  • ID card or driver's license

What is the delivery timeframe?

The citizen card is sent directly to your home, and the average delivery time is 15 days.

Is it possible to get a citizen card online?

Currently, there is no option to apply for the Citizen Card in person. However, in addition to applying by going to a Caixa branch, you can also apply by phone.

If you are unable to go to a branch to request the card, you can easily request it by phone, but please have your documents ready to facilitate the process.
